Most consumer electronics QC uses AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) sampling — inspect 20 units from a batch of 500; if fewer than 2 fail, ship the batch. This is standard practice. It's also how defective units reach customers.

Precise3D uses 100% functional testing on every unit. Every printer powers on. Every printer prints a standardized test model in PLA+ and PETG. Every printer's dimensional accuracy is verified against a calibration artifact. No sampling. No statistical acceptance of defects.

What Happens Before a Printer Ships

IQC — Incoming Quality Control

Every component batch is sampled and measured: linear rail straightness (≤0.02mm/300mm), stepper motor torque curves, belt elasticity, PSU ripple (≤50mV), PCB solder joint quality (AOI). Suppliers with >1% defect rate in any quarter are requalified.

Sub-Assembly Inspection

Each sub-assembly is tested before integration: hotend temperature ramp and stability (±1°C), bed flatness (≤0.1mm across surface), gantry squareness (≤0.1mm diagonal difference), extruder E-step calibration (±0.5%).

Assembly Line QC

In-line inspection at every assembly station. Belt tension measured with frequency meter (target 55±2 Hz at 150mm span). Screw torque verified with calibrated drivers. Wiring harness continuity test. Each station sign-off required before unit advances.

First Power-On & Firmware Flash

Full system initialization: all motors homed, all fans verified, touchscreen tested, WiFi connectivity validated. Firmware flashed to latest production release. Input shaper frequency response measured and stored to EEPROM.

24-Hour Burn-In Test

Every unit prints continuously for 24 hours. Test print: 200×200mm calibration tower at 0.2mm layer height in PLA+, followed by a 150×150mm dimensional accuracy test in PETG. Pass criteria: zero layer shifts, dimensional accuracy ±0.05mm, no thermal fault events, belt tension within spec post-test.

Cosmetic & Packaging Inspection

Visual inspection under 1000 lux lighting: enclosure surface defects, panel gap consistency (≤0.5mm), label alignment, accessory kit completeness. Packaging: foam insert fit check, box seal integrity, serial number label scan verification.

OQC — Outgoing Quality Control (Audit)

Random audit of 5% of packed units: full unbox, re-test, re-pack. If any audit unit fails, the entire batch is held and 100% re-inspected. This is the safety net — it almost never triggers, but it exists for every shipment.
